2014 Recruit Jared Stutzman

Jared StutzmanCoach Stew Morrill and crew got a good look at several recruits last weekend in a huge high school basketball tournament held on the campus of Utah State University. They even looked down the road a few years at a possible future Aggie named Jared Stutzman from Idaho Falls, Idaho.

There were reports in July of last year that Utah State was showing interest even before Jared entered high school. Another report indicated that Jared has made visits to Utah State, BYU, and Boise state. Jared is in the class of 2014 and is considered by some to be at the top of his class in the state of Idaho. He has family ties to both Utah State and BYU, and reportedly wants to play Division 1 ball in the state of Utah.

Jared started as a Freshman this past year for Bonneville High School and playing mainly as a wing. It will be interesting to see the recruiting heat up over the next year or two.  Jared plans to serve an LDS mission, so may actually not play at the next level until the 2016-17 season.  Will Jared follow in the footsteps of fellow Idaho standouts Spencer Nelson (Pocatello) and Brady Jardine (Twin Falls) and suit up in Aggie Blue and Fighting White?

Riley Bradshaw Update (Video Blog)

2012 Utah State Commit Riley Bradshaw has a new video blog entry at FiveStarBasketball.com.  He gives us a tour of his high school and an update on the stress fracture he suffered on his left foot this past basketball season.

New Aggie Commit for 2011-12 Adam Thoseby

Adam ThosebyIt looks like Utah State has found a replacement for Norvell Arnold, who will not be joining the program in 2011-12 due to legal issues. SeldomSeenSmith on USUFans.com has reported that the Aggies received a verbal commitment from Adam Thoseby, a 6’5″, 190lb lefty shooting guard.

Adam, who turns 20 in November, hails from England and comes to the Aggies via Maine Central Institute (MCI) Prep School. It is assumed that he will have 5 years to play 4.

In a Maine Morning Centinal article MCI Coach Dave Campbell touted Thoseby as “probably the most athletic kid we have.” Hopefully his shooting touch and athleticism will help the Aggies make up for losing Norvell Arnold.

Here’s a youtube clip of Thoseby hitting 8 threes in a game.

Utah State showing interest in John Marshall

John Marshall

Parsing The WAC recently mentioned that Utah State is showing interest in Junior to be John Marshall from Desert Vista High School in Arizona.

According to John’s own website, he was rated as one of the top 50 prospects in the nation for the class of 2013 at the Official Freshman All-American Camp (Fab Frosh Camp) in 2009.

Jeff Meadows from Hoops Report.com had the following to say about Marshall when he was selected to the Arizona preseason freshman all-state team upon entering high school in 2009:

Starting with the guards, John Marshall is a steady PG who is quarterbacking the Desert Vista H.S varsity team. Marshall has been among the top 5 players in his class in the state since the 6th grade. Marshall isn’t very quick but he has descent speed. Marshall’s biggest attributes are his strength, size 6’0 175lbs and his basketball I.Q.

John completed his Sophomore campaign this year. According to several game recaps Marshall has a tendency to come up big in crunch time. In a game against he hit the game winning basket in overtime driving to the hoop and scoring over a 6’7″ defender. Another recap mentioned him hitting two clutch late free throws to pull his team within a point before forcing a turnover on the in-bounds play. Yet another mentioned another clutch drive to the hoop down the stretch that fouled out a key player on the opposing team.

A Closer Look at Riley Bradshaw

Riley Bradshaw

After a long recruiting process the Utah State Basketball coaching staff must be very pleased to have received a verbal agreement from Riley Bradshaw.  Riley is widely considered to be the top recruit from the state of Montana for the class of 2012 and has been dominating the basketball scene there for the past three years.

Riley, a 6’2″ guard, will be a senior at Corvallis High School next year and plans to join the Aggies for the 2012-13 season.  He will be coming in along-side current Utah high school standouts Marcel Davis and Quincy Bair of American Fork High School.  Other 2012-13 commits include 6’9″ PF 220lb Casey Oliverson (Sky View High School, UT) and 6’2″ 165lb G Corey Calvert (Chaparral High School, CO) both of whom are expected to serve LDS missions and officially join the team in the 2014-15 season.

With Marcel Davis coming in to fill the vacated point guard spot it is widely believed that Riley will be used as a combo guard, or exclusively as a shooting guard.

Riley played AAU ball for the Utah Select last year along side current Aggie recruit Tyler Ott which probably gave the Utah State coaching staff a good look at his game.

Here’s a video blog from FiveStarBasketball.com created on May 5th where Riley talks about his commitment to Utah State and plans for AAU ball for this coming year with Idaho Select:
